SomeOne is a multi-award winning independent brand consultancy based in London, specialising in brand strategy, visual identity design, writing, naming, brand implementation and guardianship programs. The company currently employs 40 staff members ranging from designers, brand strategists and project managers.

History

SomeOne was founded in London, in 2005 by Simon Manchipp, David Law, Gary Holt & Laura Hussey.

Before founding SomeOne, Simon Manchipp was a partner at HHCL[1] Gary Holt was the ECD of Lambie Nairn[2] and David Law was creative director at ColeyPorterBell.[3][4] In the same year, the company moved into its Shoreditch studio, and expanding this London base in 2010 moving 12 doors down to number 67 Leonard Street.[5]

Notable Events

Based on the companies creative output since launch in 2005, SomeOne was listed in The Drum as the most influential design agency in the UK.[6] In 2013. The accolade followed a particularly high profile year for the company after it had rebranded The National Maritime Museum, The Queen's House and Peter Harrison Planetarium in London’s Greenwich to Royal Museums Greenwich — as well as being the creators of London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Olympic Games Pictograms[7]

In The Drum’s 2015 Design Census[8] SomeOne was listed in the top 10 Elite Agencies in the UK[9] Rated as 8th overall within the second largest company size category (20-39 staff).[10] based on financial performance, client satisfaction and peer recommendation.

Work

SomeOne works in many sectors including media, technology, retail, energy, corporate, culture and non-profit. Clients have included:

Brandworld Manifesto

SomeOne are notable in the design industry for bringing to prominence[34] and popularising[35] the concept of the Brandworld. Historically, designing a corporate identity would involve the creation of a logo, along with a suitable colour and a distinctive typeface. While this approach was successful at maintaining the visual consistency of a companies external brand, it failed to account for passive branding, whereby a distinctive visual pattern or element could supplant the need for a traditional logo. The idea that the logo no longer satisfied contemporary requirements of products, services, organisations and businesses caused considerable controversy within the design sector, crystallised by SomeOne co-founder Simon Manchipp ‘The Logo Is Dead’ articles in the design press.[36] This approach styled as 'Brandworld' opened up an entire range of branding opportunities[37] whereby a brands visual presence might be extended to large visual areas without needing to stamp a logo repeatedly. Notable existing examples of brands that employ BrandWorld thinking include Adidas (the three stripes), Eley Kishimoto (black and white patterning).
