Soma (stylized as SOMA) is a science fiction survival horror video game being developed by Frictional Games. It is expected to be released in early 2015.[3][4] The game will take place on the PATHOS-2, an underwater remote research facility with machinery that begins to take human characteristics.[5][6]
Gameplay
Soma is a science fiction survival horror game played from a first-person perspective.[1] Thomas Grip of Frictional Games stated that the player will "encounter a number of strange creatures, each an embodiment of an aspect of our themes."[1]
Development
Soma has been in the making since 2010.[1] It was revealed in April 2014 that setting the game in the bottom of the ocean was an idea which was decided on a "whim" by Frictional Games co-founders Thomas Grip and Jens Nilsson, and Grip further said that they wanted to try this for a long time.[7] On January 6, the developer stated that the game's development is mostly done, and that they're only polishing the game in works now.[8]
Marketing
A teaser trailer featuring gameplay footage of Soma was released on 11 October 2013.[3] The official website's info page displays a quote by author Philip K. Dick.[6] Another trailer of the game was released on 3 April 2014.[7]
