Solomon Garcia Smith (born March 6, 1871 in Los Angeles, California, deceased August 28, 1933) was a Mexican-American boxer in the Featherweight division.[1] He was also a former World Featherweight Champion and was the first ever World Champion of Native American descent to win a World Title.[2]

Early life

Although Solomon was born in Los Angeles, he was of Mexican and Irish descent.[3]

Professional career

World Featherweight Championship

In his first attempt Solomon Garcia Smith won the World Featherweight Championship by upsetting George Dixon in a twenty round decision.[4][5]

On September 26, 1898 Solomon lost his Championship in a very disputed fight to Dave Sullivan.[6][7]
