Smithsburg High School was constructed in 1965 on 66 North Main Street in the town of Smithsburg, Maryland, United States. The school is part of the Washington County Public Schools system. It shares a campus with Smithsburg Middle School and, across the street, Smithsburg Elementary School. The current principal is Michael Chilcutt. The school day starts at 8:45 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m.

Smithsburg High School was recently named in U.S. News & World Report's annual listing of the Best High Schools in the United States earning a Silver Award for test scores consistently above state and national averages.

Sports

Smithsburg High School's sports program is best known for its girls teams, having won a total of 38 Maryland state championships mostly in track and field in the 1A or 1A/2A division. The boys teams, by contrast, have won only 15 state championships, mostly in track and field. The school also has boys and girls lacrosse teams, and a boys soccer team, though none have won a state championship yet.
