Smirnykh (also Smirnyh) is an air base in Sakhalin, Russia located 2 km east of Smirnykh. It appears in June 1966 KH-7 imagery with a runway length of 2000 m. It was expanded sometime after this to 2500 m with a new extension of revetments added. An ICAO report on the downing of Korean Air Flight 007 indicates that it was carried out by the PVO (Soviet Anti-Air Defense) in 1983 and hosted MiG-23 fighter aircraft.
