Smidovich

Smidovich (Russian: Смидович) is an urban locality (an urban-type settlement) and the administrative center of Smidovichsky District of the Jewish Autonomous Oblast, Russia. Population: 5,120(2010 Census);[1] 5,905(2002 Census);[2] 6,646(1989 Census).[3]

History

It is an early Jewish settlement, which was founded in 1928[4] named after Pyotr Smidovich who, along with Mikhail Kalinin, came up with the idea to found the Jewish Autonomous Oblast.[5]

Climate

Classifies by Köppen-Geiger system as humid continental (Dwb). Summers are warm and rainy, while winters are very cold and dry.
