Slovene National Opera and Ballet Theatre built 1892, home of the Slovene National Opera and Ballet

Slovene National Theatre Opera and Ballet (SNG Opera in balet) is Slovenia's national opera and ballet company, and is based at the Slovene National Opera and Ballet Theatre, Ljubljana on Župančičeva 1.[1][2]

The Slovenian National Theatre Opera shared premises with the German Theatre from 1892. In 1918 the Opera was enlarged with its own orchestra and ballet.[3][4][5] Conductor Mirko Polič performed Western repertoire as well as Slavic works such as the ballets of Bulgarian composer Pancho Vladigerov and works of Slovene composer Marij Kogoj. The current repertoire includes Massenet, Rossini, Mozart etc.[6]

The Slovenian National Theatre Ballet was founded in 1918. It is currently directed by Irek Mukhamedov formerly of the Royal Ballet and has about 50 dancers.[7]
