Skagen Funds is a Scandinavian mutual fund company founded in 1993 and headquartered in Stavanger, Norway. The company manages four equity funds and six fixed income funds and have offices in Denmark, England, The Netherlands, Norway and Sweden [1] Skagen was awarded for investment excellence in 2006 by Global Investor Magazine. "Contrarians are used to being unloved. But in the last few years Skagen Funds has enjoyed spectacular growth to become Norway's biggest investment manager, with a 25% share of the market. "[2] Co-founder Kristoffer Stensrud was named Chief Investment Officer, CIO, of the year in 2007 by Funds Europe Awards. "Returns at the firm are world class and assets under management from outside the firm’s Norwegian base are rocketing".[3] In 2007 Standard & Poor's awarded the SKAGEN Kon-Tiki Fund its highest rating, AAA. Thereby having awarded all of SKAGENs equity funds with highest marks. "Success for all three funds has been the product of a clearly defined investment process applied in a consistent manner by an experienced team," said Peter Fuller, lead fund analyst at Standard & Poor's.".[4] Morningstar announced that Skagen was the winner of the Manager of the Year Awards 2014 on March 28:th 2014: “Kristoffer Stensrud and the team at Skagen Kon-Tiki had yet another stellar year in 2013, but while 2013 may have been exceptionally good, Stensrud is in no way unfamiliar with beating his benchmark, outperforming it in 19 of the last 20 calendar years at the fund house. Under his command, the fund has outperformed its next highest-returning peer by more than 1 percentage point per annum over the 10 years ended 31 Dec. 2013.[5] Bloomberg reported on January 29:th 2014 that Skagen's emerging market fund had assets under management of 50 billion krone ($8 billion) with an annualized return of 14 percent over the past 10 years, the eighth-best performer among 1120 similar funds tracked by Bloomberg over the past decade.[6]

Skagen Funds New Year's Conference first organized its annual event in Oslo in 2004 and the event has since featured a long list of prominent speakers - investors, economists, business leaders and representatives from academia. Skagen replicated the concept in Stockholm in 2006 and in Copenhagen in 2008.[7] Speakers have included Robert J. Shiller,[8] Niall Ferguson,[9] Lawrence Summers,[10] Marc Faber,[11] David Swensen,[12] Hans Rosling,[13] Paul Krugman,[14] Raghuram Rajan,[15] Jeffrey Sachs,[16] Dambisa Moyo,[17] Kyle Bass.[18]
