Sisteray are a British four-piece rock band from London, UK. Formed in 2013, by brothers Daniel Connolly (lead guitar/vocals) and Ryan Connolly (drums), the band consists of Niall Rowan (lead vocals/rhythm guitar) and Michael Hanrahan (bass).[1][2]

History

The band formed in Camden, London. Daniel Connolly found an advert on a musicians directory for a singer looking for a band. As a result, he asked Niall Rowan to join him and his brother Ryan for a jamming session. After a few months of rehearsing, writing songs and finding their sound, Daniel Connolly asked former work colleague Michael Hanrahan to join the band on bass. With the line-up complete, the band booked their first gig for Camden Rock in Camden on 19 September 2013.[1][3]

The band released their official debut single, double A-side "Take It Away/Happy Endings" on 26 August 2013.[4] "Take It Away" saw the band making their first major radio debut, appearing on Gary Crowley's Saturday show for BBC London 94.9 on 2 August 2013.[2][5] The single has also gained the band many positive reviews.[6]

In 2014 Ryan Connolly departed Sisteray and was replaced on drums by Marco Biagini.

Their first EP was recorded and produced by Michael Smith, formerly of 12 Dirty Bullets. Entitled She Likes The Drama, it was recorded at the RnR Studios in Uxbridge and released on 17 February 2014.[7][8] A tour followed which saw the band playing throughout the UK, including London, Wigan, Yorkshire and Kent.[9] The EP was deemed a big success for an independent band, which saw them featured at three This Feeling shows (formally played by Reverend and the Makers and The Pigeon Detectives,[10] as well as featuring on XFM,[11] Amazing Radio,[12] Music Week [7] and Louder Than War.[13]

The band went on to release single No Escape on 19/03/2015, which was recorded and produced at Bark Studios, London by Brian O'Shaunessey (Primal Scream).

Musical style

Sisteray are influenced by 1960s bands, such as The Kinks, The Beatles and The Who, as well as 1970s mod revival bands such as The Jam and Blues bands such as Dr. Feelgood, The Yardbirds, The Rolling Stones and Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac. The band can also cite more recent indie bands, such as The Stone Roses, Joy Division,[14] The La's, The Smiths, Arctic Monkeys[15] and Oasis.
