Sir Hugh Acland, 5th Baronet (ca. 1639 – 9 March 1714) was an English Member of Parliament.[1]
Early life
He was the third son of Sir John Acland, 1st Baronet of Wooleigh, Devon and Elizabeth Vincent and educated at Exeter College, Oxford.
He succeeded his nephew as baronet on the latter's death in 1672. He obtained new Letters Patent of the Baronetcy on 21 January 1678, with precedence from 24 June 1644 when the baronetcy was originally created.
Career
He was Member of Parliament for Barnstaple in 1679 (the Habeas Corpus Parliament) and for Tiverton from 1685 until 1687. He was appointed Sheriff of Devon for 1690.
Family
He married Anne, daughter of Sir Thomas Daniel, on 19 March 1674 and had six sons and a daughter. On his death in 1714 he was succeeded in the baronetcy by his grandson, his eldest son John Acland (c. 1675-1703), MP for Callington, having predeceased him.
