Sir Abdool Raman Osman State College (SARO SC) is a secondary school in Phoenix, Mauritius. It was founded in 1996 and was renamed after Sir Abdool Raman Osman, the first Governor-General of Mauritius in late 1996. The school became a National College in 2007. SARO prepares students for the Form 3 National Exams, School Certificate (Form 5) and the Higher School Certificate (Upper 6).

History

More blocks were added and by the end of 1997, the school became a complex with a ground area of 1.6 hectares (16,000 m2). It was converted into a Form Six school in 2002. In January 2006, consequent to a policy decision of government, the school again started admitting pupils in Form 1. End of year 2007, the school became a National College and changed its name to Sir Abdool Raman Osman State College. The school is one of the largest in Mauritius. Three editions of the school magazine were launched in 2009,2011 and 2013 respectively.

Student Khodabux Nabeel became the first laureate of the college on the 04/02/13.

Overview

Uniform

The school uniform consists of a gold/cream shirt with blue trousers. The 1st edition of the Polo-shirt had a wolf design at the back.

Sports Achievements

The school participated in the football tournament organised by the MBC in 2014. The school had a very successful campaign after beating the Collège du Saint-Esprit in the first round, qualifying for the semi-final against the New Eton College. The school made it to the regional final after a close win (1-0) against rivals Phoenix SSS. They lost in the regional final against the Saint Andrews College of Rose-Hill.
