Sioux Valley Township is a township in Jackson County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 270 at the 2000 census.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 36.2 square miles (93.8 km²), of which 35.7 square miles (92.4 km²) is land and 0.5 square mile (1.3 km²) (1.41%) is water.
Demographics
As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 270 people, 95 households, and 81 families residing in the township. The population density was 7.6 people per square mile (2.9/km²). There were 104 housing units at an average density of 2.9/sq mi (1.1/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 98.15% White, 0.74% Native American, 0.37% Asian, and 0.74% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.11% of the population.
There were 95 households out of which 40.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 81.1% were married couples living together, 2.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 14.7% were non-families. 13.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.84 and the average family size was 3.12.
In the township the population was spread out with 30.7% under the age of 18, 4.4% from 18 to 24, 27.4% from 25 to 44, 24.8% from 45 to 64, and 12.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 95.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 105.5 males.
The median income for a household in the township was $50,313, and the median income for a family was $51,094. Males had a median income of $29,125 versus $21,786 for females. The per capita income for the township was $16,462. About 12.6% of families and 15.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 21.6% of those under the age of eighteen and none of those sixty five or over.
Politics
Sioux Valley Township is located in Minnesota's 1st congressional district, represented by Mankato educator Tim Walz, a Democrat. At the state level, Sioux Valley Township is located in Senate District 22, represented by Republican Doug Magnus, and in House District 22B, represented by Republican Rod Hamilton.
