Sing My Song (Chinese: 中国好歌曲; pinyin: Zhōngguó Hǎo Gēqǔ; literally: "The Song of China") is a Chinese reality talent show that premiered on 3 January 2014 on CCTV-3 (Arts and Entertainment) channel sponsored by Hangzhou Wahaha Group and Wahaha Joint Venture Company. The series is produced by the same team that produced the The Voice of China and retains some of that show's format; however, a major difference is that contestants in Sing My Song must perform their original composition rather than covering songs by other artists.[1]
Format
The series consists of three phases: the audition called "the recording", a battle phase called "the single", and a final called "the song". The four judges/producers choose teams of contestants through a blind audition process. Each producer has the length of the auditioner's performance to decide if he or she wants that singer-songwriter's self-written, composed, and sung song on his or her album. If two or more producers want the same contestant (as happens frequently), the singer-songwriter has the final choice of producer.
Host
The first season was hosted by Nigermaidi Zechman (尼格买提·热合曼).
Producers (judges)
There is no judges or coaches on the show. Yang Kun (杨坤), Liu Huan (刘欢), Emil Chau Wakin (周华健), and Tanya Chua Jianya (蔡健雅) are the album producers who select and help the contestants with the songs.
The Recordings
The audition stage is called the recording in Sing My Song. In front of each producer, there is a lyric screen and a red control bar. If a producer pushes the bar, it means he/she is recording the song and want the song in his/her original album. This part bears resemblance to the blind auditions in The Voice.
Key | Producers pushes his or her control bar | Contestant eliminated with no producer pushing his or her control bar | Contestant defaulted to this producer's album | Contestant elected to join this producer's album |
