SimpliVity is an American information technology company based in Westborough, Massachusetts founded in late 2009 and publicly launched in 2013. [2] The company was recently valued at $1 billion upon closing its Series D venture capital funding in March 2015. [3] The company is best known for its product OmniCube that combines the functions (e.g. server, storage, compute) of 12 different IT appliances into a single device.
History
SimpliVity was founded in 2009 by Doron Kempel, who was former CEO of Diligent Technologies (acquired by IBM in 2008), and former VP and GM for EMC media solutions group.[4]
OmniCube was launched on August 20th, 2012, prior to VMworld.[5]
SimpliVity has raised $276M in venture funding.[6] The latest Series D round that occurred in March 2015 generated $175M and was led by Waypoint Capital.[7] Ongoing investors that took part in the new round include Accel Partners, DFJ Growth, CRV, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers Growth and Meritech Capital Partners.[8] The Series C round occurred in November 2013, which generated $58M and was led by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.[9] At launch, they had received $18M in Series A funding led by Accel Partners and Charles River Ventures.[10]
