Simone Peter (born 3 December 1965 in Quierschied) is a German Alliance '90/The Greens politician. Since October 2013, she has been co-chairman of the German political party Alliance '90/The Greens, together with Cem Özdemir. She is also a member of Saarland's federal state parliament.[1] Between 2009 and 2012, she was Saarland's State Minister for the Environment, Energy and Transport in the cabinet of former Minister-President Peter Müller (CDU).[2]
Personal life
Simone Peter is the daughter of SPD politician Brunhilde Peter, who served as State minister and vice Minister-President under Oskar Lafontaine. Raised in Dillingen, Peter studied microbiology in Saarbrücken and received a PhD.
After being editor-in-chief of Eurosolar, she was founding director of a state-supported communications agency promoting Renewable energies. Today, she is married and mother of one child and lives in Saarbrücken.[3]
