Simon Cooper (banker)

Simon Cooper took up the role of Chief Executive, Global Commercial Banking, in October 2013. HSBC Commercial Banking employs around 26,000 people and reported profits before tax in 2012 of over US$8.5billion.[1]

Cooper has held a variety of roles in HSBC around the world, most recently of Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Bank Middle East Limited in May 2009.[2] He was appointed a Group General Manager of HSBC in May 2008[3] where he was responsible for the HSBC Group’s business in the MENA region.[4]

Simon Cooper has been a Board member of HSBC Bank Middle East Limited (Deputy Chairman), HSBC Bank Egypt S.A.E. (Chairman), HSBC Bank Oman SAOG (Chairman) and The Saudi British Bank.

Prior to this he was President & CEO HSBC Korea, and from 2004–2006 he was the Managing Director and Head of Corporate & Investment Banking in Singapore. Cooper was previously the Deputy Chief Executive and Head of Corporate & Investment Banking in HSBC Thailand from 2001 to 2003. Prior to his role in Thailand, he was a director in corporate finance for 12 years with the HSBC Group in London, Hong Kong and Singapore.[2]
