Silver Peak Systems designs and manufactures WAN optimization products. Silver Peak's headquarters is located in Santa Clara, California. Silver Peak was founded in 2004 by David Hughes, who holds a PhD from Wollongong University and has been awarded 35 patents. Silver Peak Systems shipped its first product, the NX-series, in September 2005.
Products
Silver Peak's products (physical and virtual machines) are based on Silver Peak's Virtual Acceleration Open Architecture (VXOA) software,[1] which allows for the company's WAN optimization to be deployed on a variety of hardware platforms and hypervisors. The products are designed around three fundamental WAN optimization technologies: network memory to reduce the amount of data traversing the WAN,[2] Network Acceleration to overcome WAN latency, and Network Integrity to mitigate the effects of packet loss across the WAN.
VX WAN Optimization Software
- VX-500 - Supports up to 2 Mbit/s of TCP and non-TCP WAN traffic and 8,000 simultaneous connections.
- VX-1000 - Supports up to 4 Mbit/s of TCP and non-TCP WAN traffic with over 8,000 simultaneous connections.[3]
- VX-2000 - Supports up to 10 Mbit/s of TCP and non-TCP WAN traffic and 64,000 simultaneous connections.
- VX-3000 - Supports up to 20 Mbit/s of TCP and non-TCP WAN traffic and 64,000 simultaneous connections.
- VX-5000 - Supports up to 50 Mbit/s of TCP and non-TCP WAN traffic and 64,000 simultaneous connections.
- VX-6000 - Supports up to 100 Mbit/s of TCP and non-TCP WAN traffic and 128,000 simultaneous connections.
- VX-7000 - Supports up to 200 Mbit/s of TCP and non-TCP WAN traffic and 128,000 simultaneous connections.
- VX-8000 - Supports up to 622 Mbit/s of TCP and non-TCP WAN traffic and 256,000 simultaneous connections.
- VX-9000 - Supports up to 1 Gbit/s of TCP and non-TCP WAN traffic and 256,000 simultaneous connections.
Velocity Replication Acceleration (VRX) software
- VRX-2 - Supports up to 50GB of replication throughput per hour and 2,000 connections. Runs on VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix XenServer, and KVM hypervisors.
- VRX-4 - Supports up to 250GB of replication throughput per hour and 2,000 connections. Runs on VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix XenServer, and KVM hypervisors.
- VRX-6 - Supports up to 750GB of replication throughput per hour and 2,000 connections. Runs on VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix XenServer, and KVM hypervisors.
- VRX-8 - Supports up to 2TB of replication throughput per hour and 2,000 connections. Runs on VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix XenServer, and KVM hypervisors.

Partnerships
Dell
Silver Peak is a Dell partner for WAN optimization in over 30 countries, where Dell resells Silver Peak to improve the performance of Dell storage (EqualLogic and Compellent), networking (Force10), server, and virtual desktop (VDI) implementations over the wide area network.[7][8]
EMC
EMC Corporation resells Silver Peak physical and virtual WAN optimization appliances, which are available through the EMC Select program. Silver Peak is also the only WAN optimization product qualified and integrated with EMC’s VPLEX Geo.[9] Silver Peak’s WAwan optimization products are E-lab qualified on Symmetrix Remote Data Facility/Asynchronous (SRDF/A), Symmetrix Remote Data Facility/Data Mobility (SRDF/DM), SAN Copy, Celerra Replicator, Isilon SyncIQ, RecoverPoint, and Atmos.[10]
