The Silver Clef Awards is an annual UK music awards lunch which has been running since 1976.
History
The Silver Clef fundraising committee was founded in 1976 by musicians and managers from across the British music industry, who wanted to honour and award music artists whilst raising funds for Nordoff Robbins. The event went on to become the annual Silver Clef Awards and Luncheon, an important date in the social and business calendar of the music industry, with even members of the Royal Family attending as guests of honour. The luncheon is also the flagship event in the highly respected and well-known diary of fundraising events put on by Nordoff Robbins. The Silver Clef initiative eventually expanded to the USA, where members of the music community there arranged the first American Silver Clef Award Dinner and Auction in 1989. The funds from that event benefited the Nordoff Robbins Centre for Music Therapy based at New York University.
In July 2014, Nordoff Robbins held its 39th annual Silver Clef Awards, sponsored by O2, at the London Hilton Hotel on Park Lane. UK rock and guitarist legend Jimmy Page was awarded the main award of the day, the O2 Silver Clef Award, whilst Tom Jones was honoured with the Sony Mobile Lifetime Achievement Award. Paloma Faith took home the Royal Albert Hall Best British Act Award, heavy metal rockers Black Sabbath received the AEG Live Ambassadors of Rock Award and Bono presented chart topper Pharrell Williams with the Raymond Weil International Award. The other winners included Chas & Dave (Investec Icon Award), Giorgio Moroder (American Express Innovation Award), Laura Mvula (Jack Daniel’s Best Newcomer Award), and the nations favorite choir master Gareth Malone (PPL Classical Award) who were all there on the day to celebrate their win. An award was also given to Justin Timberlake for Best Live Act which was voted for by members of the public with the support of Ticketmaster, O2, Absolute Radio, Magic 105.4 and Music Week.
The next O2 Silver Clef Awards will be held in London, July 2014. Watch footage from previous year's awards ceremonies at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22VlQ0TwfO8
