Sia ferox also known as Riokku(リオック, Japanese name) or Indonseian giant cricket is a species of Orthoptera that lives in Indonesia. This species in the family Stenopelmatidae, genus Sia.
Appearance
The length of Sia ferox is 65–80 millimetres (2.6–3.1 in). Although its basic form is similar to the Gryllacrididae or some Anostostomatidae, it is somewhat elongated. Its body color is brown. The female has a rudimentary ovipositor, unlike true Gryllacrididae or Anostostomatidae species. It is similar to Jerusalem cricket, but it is the only species that Stenopelmatidae lives in Indonesia. Sia ferox is a predatory cricket. Sometimes Female preys on males.
Ecology
The species is nocturnal. It also preys on other insects possibly found in the bottom of rainforest. Like other Stenopelmatidae species, Sia ferox usually hides its burrow in days. At night, This cricket comes out from its burrow and search the prey like mantis, cricket and grasshopper.
