Shurdhi

In Albanian mythology, Shurdhi is a weather deity of Illyrian origin.[1]

Name

The name Shurdhi derives from the Albanian phrase i shurdhët meaning the deaf one in English.[2] Baron Nopcsa, regarded as one of the founders of Albanology identified the name Shurdhi with the ancient Thracian thunder deity Zibelsurdus, who was also greeted with weapons.[2][3]

Traits

Shurdhi travels using clouds which announce hail storms when he arrives. Shurdhi is related to Verbti. He can be repelled with noise and gunshots.[2]
