Shrines is the debut album of Canadian electronica duo Purity Ring. It was announced on April 23, 2012 by 4AD and was released on July 24, 2012.[13] The album reached number 100 on the UK Albums Chart.[14] In the United States, it reached number 32 on the Billboard 200 and number two on the Dance/Electronic Albums.[15]
The album was listed 24th on Pitchfork Media's staff lists top 50 albums of 2012[16] and 14th on the reader list.[17] It was also ranked 29th on Stereogum's list of top 50 albums of 2012 and 50th on NME's best albums of 2012 list.[18] The album was named a shortlisted nominee for the 2013 Polaris Music Prize on June 13, 2013.[19]
The tracks "Ungirthed," "Belispeak," "Obedear," "Fineshrine," and "Lofticries" were released as singles.[13][20] In the UK, "Lofticries" was released on 26 November 2012, while "Fineshrine" was released on 4 March 2013. The music video for "Lofticries" was released on the Pitchfork.tv, the YouTube account of Pitchfork Media.[21]
