Shorea megistophylla is a species of plant in the Dipterocarpaceae family. It is endemic to Sri Lanka.

Leaves

large, oblong-elliptic, acuminate apex, lateral veins 13-18 pairs, intercostals scalariform; flush red.

Trunk

tall, straight, cylindrical, often pronounced buttresses; Bark - coming away in large pieces, patchy, yellow-brown; Wood - pale yellow.

Flowers

pale whitish pink; Inflorescence - panicle.

Fruits

subglobose, wings 3 long and 2 short, twisted.

Ecology

rain forest canopy, lower slopes and waterways of wet zone.

Uses

Wood - light construction; resin- incense; fruit- vegetable.

Culture

Known as හොඩ බෙරලිය (hoda beraiya) in Sinhala.
