Shorea gardneri is a species of plant in the Dipterocarpaceae family. It is endemic to Sri Lanka.
Leaves
ovate, revolute, base obtuse to cordate on unfurling, lateral veins about 12 pairs, with a few intermediaries.
Trunk
buttresses, often wavy; Bark - cracked, flaky, purplish brown; Immature Bark - fibrous, thick, orange-brown; W,s- dark yellow brown, hard; h- orange brown.
Flowers
Inflorescence -terminal to subterminal panicles.
Fruits
ovoid, pointed, wings 3 long and 2 short twisted.
Site
rain forest canopy, skeletal soils, ridges, steep slopes.
Uses
Wood - heavy construction.
Culture
Known as රත් දුන් (rath dun) in Sinhala.
