Early life

Patil is the son of Mrinalini Patil, who is a producer-director of Marathi films. He is part of a dance crew called Street Soul Dance Crew, under the nicknames 'Evolution' and 'Bboy Evolution'.[2][3][5] He took an acting course under Barry John.[6]

Acting career

Patil was cast in a thirteen episode fiction show on MTV India, called MTV Rush, a show based on a fictional college festival called Rush, which was directed by filmmaker Bejoy Nambiar and slated to be aired in 2012.[7]

In 2012, Patil was also cast as the male lead in the coming of age film Nasha, where he played the role of Sahil, a teenage student who falls in love with his drama teacher Anita played by Poonam Pandey.[8] He was called the "surprise packet of the film" by Taran Adarsh, who noted his ease in front of the camera.[9] Khalid Mohamed reviewing for the Deccan Chronicle called his performance in the film "particularly impressive, confident and nuanced, without ever going over the top", and stated, "surely, he deserved a better first film".[10] The Mumbai Mirror stated that "Shivam plays it stiff and not terribly expressive. This ultimately works for his character Sahil, and is completely intentional."[11]
In 2013, he played the protagonist in the 6th episode of MTV Webbed called "Even Family is Fair Play", where he portrayed the character of a sexually confused teenager.[4] In 2014, he played the lead in the 42nd episode of Yeh Hai Aashiqui. In this episode, he portrayed the role of an aspiring writer in depression, who falls in love with a girl he meets in an accident.[12] Following this, he appeared in the 68th episode of Yeh Hai Aashiqui.[13] [14] In this episode, he portrayed the role of a young dancer, Jeet, who falls in love with his dance teacher, Joyeeta, played by Vallary Lokre. The episode aired on 21 September 2014.[13]
