Shintaro Higashi December 16, 1984.[1] Shintaro is a judo competitor, 5th degree black belt in judo, of the United States in the 100 kg category.[2] He is a member of the New York Athletic Club and the Kokushi Budo Institute.[3]
Personal life
He attended Hunter College, and received a Masters in Education as well as a BA in Psychology. He currently serves as a professor at Brooklyn College.[4] He is also the current head instructor at Kokushi Budo Institute. While at Hunter he was a member of the Hunter College Wrestling team.[5] He is the son of Nobuyoshi Higashi, founder of Kokushi-ryu jujutsu, judo, aikido and karate instructor, and author.[6]
Martial Arts
He holds black belts in judo, jujitsu, aikido and karate.[2] He has won Gold in the 2007 USA Judo Senior National Championships and placed 5th in the US Open.[3] He also took Gold in the International Tournament Am-Cam Judo Challenge and placed third in the National Championships.[3] He would be a member of Team USA in 2007, 2010 World Judo Championships – Men's 100 kg and 2011 World Judo Championships – Men's 100 kg for the world games.[2] He trained for the 2008 and the 2012 US Olympic Team at 100 kg.[7] He achieved 51st in the world ranking for Judo behind Kyle Vashkulat in the United States.[7]
