"Shine" is a song recorded by Gwen Stefani & Pharrell Williams, taken from the soundtrack for the film, Paddington. The song was written and produced by Williams, with additional songwriting from Stefani. The song contains many elements of general pop music, but it also incorporates elements of soul music. Williams also co-wrote and produced Stefani's latest single, "Spark the Fire".

It is unknown whether or not the song will be included on Stefani's upcoming third studio album. Also, the song has not been released to the iTunes store yet.

Background

Stefani told MTV News, that Pharrell "was very specific about the lyrics - he wanted them to be like, 'bear, Paddington, station' and I wanted it to be a little more abstract"[1] Lyrically, the song discusses Paddington Bear and his travels.

Critical reception

Upon release, many critics gave the song a positive review, although many critics are comparing it to Pharrell's highly successful single, "Happy".[2] Bruna Nessif of E! News gave the song a positive review, stating "When it comes to feel-good music, leave it up to Gwen Stefani and Pharrell to get the job done."[3] AntiMusic calls the song "even more feel good" than their previous collaboration, "Spark the Fire".[4] The Cambridge Symphony Orchestra also gave "Shine" a positive review, saying: "["Shine" is] a sharp, hip tune."[5]

Music video

A short lyric video displaying clips from the film was uploaded on January 13, 2015. After being uploaded to The Weinstein Company's official YouTube channel, it received over 2 million views in 24 hours.[6] As of April 22, 2015, it has 2.7 million views.
