Shin Hae-chul (6 May 1968 – 27 October 2014) was a South Korean pop music performer,and radio DJ.

History

Born in Seoul, South Korea, Shin has been involved in many musical projects since his debut in 1988.[1] He has acted as musician, singer, and producer. He introduced the techno music technique in his nation with a huge sensation in 1998, with his album Monocrom. After that, he went to London, England, and New York City, in the United States, to develop his production skills for nearly two years.

He also contributed to the broadcasting factor with hosting several Radio programmes, including 'Music City with Shin Hae Chul'[2] and 'GhostStation with Shin Hae Chul'[3] After supporting and campaigning for the president Roh Moo-hyun in 2002 election, Mr. Shin hosts the popular Ghost Nation on MBC, a late-night radio program since 2003. His fans call him "Mawang" (마왕 'the King of Darkness').

On 16 September 2007, Shin ended his popular late-night radio program, "The Ghost Nation". But he also announced that the broadcasting will be continuously served through the web, but no more broadcasting through MBC.[4]

N.EX.T

Shin's many musical projects include N.EX.T(means 'New EXpermintal Team'), No Dance, Monocrom, and Wittgenstein. Shin's music serves up nearly every style conceivable. He was also involved with composing the soundtrack to the Korean release of Guilty Gear X2.

Shin Hae-chul disbanded N.EX.T. after their 4th studio album, Lazenca: A Space Rock Opera, citing he has achieved everything he can with a band. He said if he involved himself in another band, he would drop his surname and change his name. He was sometimes cited as "Crom" in projects such as Monocrom, Wittgenstein, and with the current N.EX.T.

Personal life

He married Yoon Won-hee (윤원희) on September 29, 2002,[5] just before the 2002 election. Recently, he released his first jazz album The Songs for the One (2007), dedicated to his wife and daughter.

Shin was recently found to be suffering from prosopagnosia, in a TV show (MBC Goldfish) in which he made a guest appearance.[6] After that he hosted a brand-new TV comedy debate program 100-second Debate(since May 2007), with a similar format of the MBC's 100 Minute Debate.[7] On July 29, 2007, he appeared as a victim (guest) of Lee Kyung-kyu's Hidden Camera.[8]

Shin suffered a massive heart attack on 22 October 2014 and fell into a coma. He was hospitalized at Asan Medical Center in Seoul, where he was also treated for an infection of the peritoneum and intestines. It was reported that the singer passed away at the age of 46 after receiving surgery on October 22nd after complaining of heart and abdominal pain and had been unconscious since. [9] His family is preparing for a case to claim for damages.
