Shibu Chakravarthy is noted lyricist, screenplay and script writer who mainly works in Malayalam Cinema. He had been lyricist to around 200 songs and had also been script writer for various films like Nair Saab, Manu Uncle, Adharvam etc. He continues penning for various new films in Mollywood. He penned his first song for the movie Allimalarkkaavu in 1984 and he still works for the industry. Up to date he had worked for 70 films.

Lyricist

Shibu Chakravarthy is a noted lyricst and screenplay and script writer who mainly works in Malayalam cinema. He was born in Cochin on 17 February 1961. He started writing poems at a very young age, inspired by his uncle Eroor Vesudev. At the age of 18 he started writing songs for Malaylam Basic albums. His first film was Allimalarkkavu in 1984 at the age of 23 when he was doing his Master's degree in Philosophy in Maharajas College. He continued his studies and secured a diploma in Journalism and at the same time worked profusely with the film industry.

He famous hit was in the film Shyma and the song "chembarathy poovu" and he became a successful lyricist in the Malayalam cinema industry.

Shibu Chakravorthy is a lyricist in Malayalam Film/Album industry. He was introduced to Malayalam Film Industry by Mr. Rajan Prakash of Prakash Movie tone. Since then he has been active in film. He has penned about 250 songs in about 75 films and approximately 200 songs for festival/devotional albums. He had quite a few hits with popular music directors including M. K. Arjunan, Raghu Kumar, Shyam, Ravindran, Johnson, K.J. Joy, Kannoor Rajan, Jerry Amal Dev, M.G. Radhakrishnan, S.P. Venketesh, Mohan Sithara, M. Jayachandran Alphons, Deepak Dev, Ousephachan etc. Ouseppachan Sibu Chakravorthy duo has created music par excellence and is well known in the film fraternity.

He also wrote scripts for mainstream films as well as offbeat films :

Orkkapurath directed by Kamal in 1988 Manu Uncle directed by Dennis Joseph in 1988 which won the National Award. Atharvam directed by Dennis Joseph in 1989 Nair Saab (worked as co writer with Dennis Joseph) directed by Joshy in 1989 Sambragyam directed by Joemon in 1990 Abhayam directed by Sivan in 1991 Aazarakoottam directed by Karim in 1990 which was the first film of Dilip Churam directed by Bharatan in 1987.

He began his career at a very young age while continuing his studies in Maharajah College as a layout artist in Gayathri Artists & Designers which was very popular in film industry. That helped him to get associated with the art direction of two major cinemas Nirakootte and New Delhi. He still continues his association with the advertisement industry through jingles innovative concepts.

Documentaries

Shibu Chakravarthy is a multifaceted artist. His main stream being a lyricst and script writer he also ventured into the world of documentaries. He has done a documentary covering all aspects of UAE's tradition and culture which is still maintained as the official reference for the UAE tourism. He has done the following documentaries as well: Documentary about Cochin Two major documentaries about Matha Amritanandamayi (Amma) He climbed the ladder to the world of Television on an invite from Bharat Mammooty in 2004 to work for Kairali TV. He was the Programme Head for almost 5 years and he led the channel to great heights. Shibu also did a documentary on Elephants and the various aspects of its life in the wild. Reality shows of Kairali began under his leadership. The well-viewed popular programme “Star Wars” underwent a format change under his guidance. Shibu reinstalled the long-forgotten art form 'Kathaprasangam' through a reality show. He was associated with the branching of Kairali TV's channels – People TV and WE TV. He bid adios to Kairali T.V in 2009 and joined Amrita T.V. Now he works with Media One TV

World of Animation

In the world of animation he has set up the first and unique thought of building up a Co-operative Society. His innovative ideas envisaged the possibility of animation in today's world. He initiated a group of young think-alike to form an organisation to bring about new concepts in animation. This organisation is a non-profitable organisation and their main motive is to bring about artistic excellence whiles enjoying the creation. The Association known as "Society of Animators" is a platform for the budding animation artists to develop their ideas and implement them. The Society is not restricted to the group members and also welcomes any individual who has new ideas to the world of animation.

Personal life

Shibu Chakravarthy was born on 17 February 1961 in Kaloor, Ernakulam District to the Late K.G. Das and Leela Teacher. He did his schooling from St. George school Edappally. After his Post Graduation in Philosophy from Maharajas College, Ernakulam he took a Diploma in Journalism. He has four sisters and his wife Shiji works as Principal in Vijyana Sagar (NPOL School). His daughter Malavika is a student of Artchitecture in University School of Designs, Mysore and his son Shantanu goes to school. Shibu Chakravarthy is an avid reader and his interests are in Philosophy and Psychology.
