Sheth Chimanlal Nagindas Vidyalaya (Sheth C. N. Vidyalaya) is a granted high school in the Ambavadi area of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. It is one of the oldest educational institutions in Gujarat established in year 1912. It is known as "Shantiniketan of the Western India".
Campus
The campus is spread over 72 acres in area. It contains kindergarten to 12th grade schools, a Fine Arts College, a teachers training college, a Derasar (Jain place of worship) as well as farms and hostels.
Etymology
The school is named after Sheth Chimanlal Nagindas, father of Indumati Sheth. Indumati Sheth founded the school and was Education Minister of Gujarat from 1962 to 1967.
About the school
At the entrance of the spacious two-storey building of the High School, stand two beautiful sculptures of the Goddess Saraswati and Pragna Paramita.
The school is a co-educational K through 12 institution. The campus has separate buildings for Kindergarten, Junior-High and High School.
The school was selected as a multipurpose school for fine arts under the Government of India scheme. Students at early age are encouraged to learn personal discipline and responsibility to the society. The school is based on Gandhian values and require students to wear Khadi (hand-spun cotton) clothes as their uniform. Children in all classes are encouraged to sweep and clean their own classrooms and mingle with fellow-students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
The school is one of the top school in the state of Gujarat and consistently ranks high in academic achievements. Apart from academics, the school encourages "sarvangi vikas", that is, an all-round development of a student through different cultural and sports activities within its huge campus. The school is particularly famous for the activities in the Prayer Hall, named after the Gujarati poet, Jhinabhai Desai alias 'Snehrashmi'.
