Shergarh is a town and a nagar panchayat in Bareilly district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is a small town known for rice and sugarcane.

Demographics

As of 2011 India census,[1] Shergarh had a population of 14,687. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Shergarh has an average literacy rate of 72%, lower than the national average of 74%: male literacy is 80%, and female literacy is 68%. In Shergarh, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Historial background

("Gulfam khan") It is believed to be a very old town turned upside down by an earthquake(dates not known). There are still two big mounds in the town where people have built their houses. People still find valuables, large bones of humans and animals, old coins, pots,etc. while digging it for building their houses, etc. It is said to be the capital of Raja Venu, a local Ruler in Ancient India. Shershah Suri of Mughal period is believed to have given the present name of the town.There is a stone piller on Bareilly-Nainital Road indicating towards Shergarh that the way leads to Shershah Ka Qila. Stories in the town have it that there used to be an underground tunnel from Deorania up to Ranitaal in Shergarh. A big pond of about 15 acre called Ranitaal with lot of flora and fauna can be visited even today in Shergarh.

Old buildings

There is a remnant of an old palatial house of Zamindari period in front of Lala Lajpat Rai Inter College The Name of zamidaar is Lala RamKumar . Another building of the Zamindari Period is in the east of the town, known as Lala Ram Shri Ram . He is a shopkeeper in Shergarh. He is very hard working and respectable in Shergarh. He have 3 daughter one daughter married in Shergarh. The single daughter is responsible for all property because his father adopt her husband as as son The Name Of that person is Dr.Hori Lal Gupta.

Schools

There are a number of privately run schools in the town apart from the govt owned Kamala Nehru School and Lala Lajpat Rai Inter College and M.K.H.Academy Bairamnager shergarh run by mr.Irfan khan .

Medical facilities

There is a Primary Health Centre run by the govt. There are some private clinics too, for example there is one National Clinic just opposite Block Development Office.

Banks

There are a couple of banks too. State Bank of India,Gramin Bank and Bank of Baroda have got their branches in town. There is one working ATM too.
