Shergar Cup

The Shergar Cup is a horse racing event held at Ascot Racecourse, usually during early August. It was first held in 1999 at Goodwood Racecourse, but has been held at Ascot since 2000, except in 2005 when there was no race. The race is named in honor of the 1981 Epsom Derby winner Shergar.

Competition format

Twelve jockeys are separated into four teams, based on their presenting countries or region. There are six races, and all jockeys must ride in five of them, the team with the highest points being the winner. The race also gives the Silver Saddle award to the individual jockey with the most points.
