Shenyang International School (沈阳 国际 学校 Shěn-yáng guó-jì xué-xiào) (SYIS) was founded in 1998 and offers a North American, college-preparatory education program from K3 (3 year old class) through 12th grade. It is part of International Schools of China (ISC) which offers academically excellent programs that meet the intellectual, physical and emotional needs of students. SYIS students are from different countries, including South Korea, United States, Japan, Philippines, Singapore, New Zealand, Canada, Germany, Netherlands, and Taiwan. SYIS is a private international school which serves the expatriate community in Shenyang City. It offers an American curriculum and a college preparatory system of instruction. SYIS campus is located in Dongling District, Shenyang City, China.
History
SYIS opened its doors in the third quarter of 1998 at which time there were 18 students enrolled in grades one through six. By the end of that school year, enrollment had grown to 29 students supported by three foreign teachers. In the third quarter of 2000, the school moved to a larger facility in the Quanyuan area.
In the fall of 2005, SYIS moved to a new facility in the Sujiatun District to accommodate its growing student body. During that time, SYIS was accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) for a full 6-year term.
In August 2008, SYIS moved from the Sujiatun District to the Minzu Economic Development Zone.
SYIS moved to their current brand new campus in the HuNan New District of Shenyang in April 2014.
As of September 2013, 233 students are enrolled at SYIS, making SYIS the largest international school in Shenyang. SYIS is also the only school in Shenyang to offer an American curriculum from junior kindergarten through grade twelve and taught solely in English by expatriate teachers.[1]
