Sharon Au (simplified Chinese: 欧菁仙; traditional Chinese: 歐菁仙; pinyin: Ōu Jīngxiān) is a former Singaporean actress and host. Having joined the TCS during the mid-1990s, she won many awards as an artiste with MediaCorp before leaving the industry to pursue further studies. She is still with MediaCorp but is now in an executive position.
Career
Previously a flight stewardess with Singapore Airlines, Au's career in the entertainment industry began when she was talent-spotted from a Toy Factory Productions English remake of a Hong Kong stage musical I Have A Date With Spring. During the late 1990s she was best known for co-hosting City Beat with Kym Ng and Bryan Wong. She played numerous roles ranging from a cabaret girl in the stage musical, Beauty World to an enthusiastic radio presenter in the sitcom Right Frequency, each receiving rave reviews.
Competent and effectively bilingual, Au proved to be one of the most established hosts in Mediacorp alongside Quan Yi Fong and Guo Liang. This made her the favourite choice compere for most of MediaCorp's variety special programmes. This is further endorsed with her victory when she clinched the Best Variety Show Host Award at the Star Awards for four consecutive years.
She left for Japan to further her studies in 2005 in the School of International Liberal Studies, Waseda University in Tokyo on a MediaCorp scholarship. As part of her studies, she went to Jean Moulin University Lyon 3 in France for a year to study, as part of Waseda University's One-Year international Exchange Program.
Au came back to Singapore specially to host the Star Awards 2007 having been missing from the screen since September 2005.
After completing her studies at Waseda in 2011, Au re-joined MediaCorp in a new capacity as a manager in the strategic development department in April 2011.[1] She marked her return with her participation in the National Day Parade 2011. She was one of the co-host for the National Day Parade 2012, and will make her hosting debut after her return from studies on the President's Star Charity 2012.[2]
Personal life
Au revealed that she intends to marry her French boyfriend who is eight years her junior. She met him during the exchange program in France.[3]
Au attended CHIJ Saint Nicholas Girls' School (Secondary) and Hwa Chong Junior College in Singapore. She graduated from Waseda University in Tokyo with a Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree in 2011.[4]
