Shanti Swaroop Rana

Lietenant Colonel Shanti Swaroop Rana was an Indian militar officer with the 3rd Battalion of the Bihar Regiment.[1] On 2 November 1996, he led an operation to destroy two terrorist camps in the Haphruda forest of Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir.[1] In the process, he killed three terrorists but sustained several gunshot wounds, and finally succumbed to the injuries.[2] For his bravery, he was posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra, the highest peace time military decoration in India.[1]
