Shannon Areum Williams (Hangul: 샤넌 아름 윌리엄스; born May 26, 1998), best known as simply Shannon, is a British idol artist active in South Korea. She is under DAP Sound, a division of MBK Entertainment.

Biography

Shannon's father, Chris Williams Lees, is Welsh. Her mother, Jungmi Kim, is Korean. Her Korean name is Areum.

Shannon is also known as 'Shannon Pix' which is the name caused by misrepresentation during her appearance on SBS's Star King. According to her official Twitter account, she once considered using "Shannon Pix" as her stage name instead of "Shannon Williams".

Shannon has two twin half brothers, Christian Lees and Jonah Lees, from her father's previous relationship. Both of them are actors and musicians.

2011-2013: Pre-debut

While attending Sylvia Young Theatre School in the United Kingdom at the age of 7, Shannon was given the role of Cosette in Les Miserables musical performances. She later came to South Korea in 2010 to appear on SBS's Star King. On the show, she expressed her singing excellence which received attention in 2011.

In 2011, she signed with Core Contents Media (CCM) and was able to achieve an exclusive contract with them.[1]

In 2012, she released a single album, Day and Night, with Areum, an ex-member of T-ara, and Gun-ji from Gavy NJ.

In 2013, Shannon was recruited as a new member of F-ve Dolls. However, in July 2013, before returning to F-ve Dolls, Shannon was withdrawn. The reason is that she wanted to be like her role model BoA.

Following comments, her agency, CCM, launched a plan to debut her as a solo artist that would take about 1–2 years of training.[2]

On November 23, 2013, Shannon appeared on an IU episode of JTBC's Hidden Singer 2, and she was able to enter the final round.

2014: Debut with "Daybreak Rain"

On January 18, 2014, she performed IU's "Good Day" and Beyonce's "Listen" on the King of King round of JTBC's Hidden Singer 2, but she was unable to appear on the final stage.

On January 29, 2014, she released her new single, "Remember You", which featured Jongkook from SPEED.

on February 12, 2014, she and T-ara N4's Dani performed "Let It Go", a song from the film Frozen, and Rihanna's "Diamonds", at a SBS MTV's SPEED showcase called Speed Day.

On December 1, 2014, she released her debut single, "Daybreak Rain" debuted at number 32 on Gaon digital chart.[3] On December 26, 2014, she released a collaboration single, "Breath", with Vasco and Giriboy.

2015: EIGHTEEN

On March 5, 2015, Shannon announced the impending release of her first mini album EIGHTEEN and single "Why Why". From this release, her stage name is Shannon Williams.
