Shane McDermott

Shane McDermott (born Shane Francis McDermott, April 24, 1976, Middletown, New York) is an American actor, artist and realtor best known for his role as Mitchell Goosen in the movie Airborne (1993). He currently lives in Galveston, Texas.

Early life

Originally from Houston, Texas, Shane moved to New York City at age 12 to pursue work as a child model. His family established residence on Roosevelt Island located under the Queensboro Bridge. The city was a great adventure and opened his eyes to the many cultures, lifestyles and vices available to an individual. Shane worked as a Ford Model from age 12 – 15, (work including catalogs, book covers, Izod for kids, vogue and Ralph Lauren) and attended school at PCS Professional Children’s School on New York’s West side.

Early career

At age 14 Shane found himself in the exciting world of acting. Auditioning for commercial and TV spots, eventually landing a role acting in a Drug-free America commercial. Additional commercial roles for Ethan Allen furniture & Stove Top Stuffing followed successfully transitioning him from modeling to acting.

Shane's first major break came in 1992, when he starred in the series Swans Crossing, an American teen drama series which aired for twelve weeks in syndication from June 29, 1992 to September 25, 1992. Shane played the role of Garrett Booth, for which he was nominated as Best Young Actor in an Off-Primetime Series 1993.

At age 16, Shane landed the lead role in the movie Airborne, a comedy/drama film also starring Seth Green, Brittney Powell, Jacob Vargas and a then-unknown Jack Black. Shane played Mitchell Goosen, a teenager from California who loves to surf and rollerblade.

1995-1997, Shane was hired by the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) to play Scott Chandler on America's favorite soap opera All My Children. For two years, Shane worked at ABC Studios on New York's west side, with actors Kelly Ripa, Chris Bruno and Susan Lucci.

Painting

1998 Shane enrolled in the School of Visual Arts where he studied photography and the arts. Shane spent much of his free time traveling, spending a summer in Seville, Spain taking numerous trips throughout Europe and Africa. He enjoyed a three month adventure driving and camping throughout America where he discovered the shocking beauty of Americas West Coast. After completing school, Shane to move to Los Angeles CA where he looked for work, surfed and started to experiment with paint.

Choosing art over acting, Shane moved to Galveston, Texas in 2003 where he paints and sells real estate. Shane is very active in local politics and has served on numerous boards and committees. Currently, Shane is a Galveston Park Board Trustee. Shane was married to Laura Hughes, 2011 in Galveston, TX.
