Shalabh Kumar is an Indian-American businessman and conservative political donor.

Personal life and career

Kumar was born in Amritsar, India.[1] He graduated from Punjab University in 1965 and earned a BS in electronics engineering in 1969 from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh.[2] Kumar also attended the Illinois Institute of Technology.[1] Kumar's son, Vikram Aditya, married 2007 Miss India Earth Pooja Chitgopekar in the most expensive wedding in New Zealand history; Kumar paid for the wedding.[3]

Kumar is the CEO of AVG Advanced Technologies,[1] and also serves as the CEO of Autotech Technologies. Additionally, Kumar has served as president or CEO of Circuit International Incorporated, Microfast Controls Corporation, Electronic Support Systems, Mc Technologies, and Hi-Tech Systems Corporation. Kumar has also been employed with Nanofast Incorporated and National Controls Corporation.[4]

Political activities

Kumar is the founder of the National Indian American Public Policy Institute, a think tank focusing on issues relevant to Indian-Americans.[1] Kumar is also the founder of a super PAC, Indian Americans for Freedom.[5][6] Kumar has sought to recruit Indian-Americans Republicans to run for Congress.[7] Additionally, Kumar chairs the Indian American Advisory Council of the House Republican Conference.[6] Kumar has organized meetings between American and Indian politicians,[8] and has particularly close ties with Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister of Gujarat.[1] Kumar has described Modi as his idol, and has tried to get Visa for him Visa policy of the United States.[6]
