Shakira Caine (born Shakira Baksh on 23 February 1947, also known as Shakira and Lady Micklewhite), is a Guyanese-British actress and fashion model.

Early life

She was born in British Guiana (now Guyana).[1] Her mother was a dressmaker, and she aspired to follow in her footsteps and become a fashion designer.

Career

Modelling career

While working as a secretary, she was urged by her employer to enter the Miss Guyana contest, which she won. At the age of 19, she came in third in the 1967 Miss World contest held in London, where she stayed to launch a career in modelling.

Acting career

After seeing Baksh in a television advertisement for Maxwell House coffee, British actor Michael Caine became obsessed with finding the woman he considered to be "the most beautiful... he had ever seen."[1] The couple were married in Las Vegas on 8 January 1973,[2] and have one daughter, Natasha.

Baksh appeared in several films in the 1970s, including Carry On Again Doctor, Toomorrow, Son of Dracula and, with her husband, John Huston's The Man Who Would Be King. She also appeared in two episodes of the science fiction TV series UFO.[3]
