Seven Kings High School (often abbreviated as SKHS) is a mixed comprehensive in Ilford in East London, England. It is located on Ley Street. Seven Kings has also participated and won awards which are notable around the UK, such as, The Jack Petchey Award and referred as a National Teaching School. [1] Seven Kings has also pioneered work to include pupils with special needs and disabilities.[1]

Sixth form

The school includes a sixth form which offers various A-level courses. The sixth form has a higher intake than the lower school, and is open to pupils from surrounding boroughs and towns, including Romford, London boroughs. They take in over a hundred external students from other schools. However, this number can vary depending on how many internal students carry on to the sixth form.

Assessments and Ofsted

A 2007 Ofsted report accorded the school a Grade 1 (outstanding).[1]

In 2009 Ofsted highlighted Seven Kings High School as one of 12 outstanding schools serving disadvantaged communities.[2]

Uniform

Seven Kings uniform for lower and upper school consists of a navy blazer, blue shirt, navy trousers or skirt and a school tie, consisting of the Seven Kings logo of crowns. The Sixth Form students must wear formal suits (blazers) and ties. From September 2012, male students entering the sixth form must wear black suits and the Seven Kings sixth form tie. Female students are to wear formal suits/clothes, presumably black and white.

Public appearances

Seven Kings has made some contributions to the BBC throughout media. The school was featured on The One Show in a feature on the cookery skills of young people.

Former SKHS student Issac Harvey has had a chance to carry the London 2012 Olympic Flame throughout Ilford and the local area.

Notable former teachers

Over the years, the school has had a number of distinguished teachers. Peter Hyman, former speechwriter to ex-Prime Minister Tony Blair, as well as former Head of Communications at 10 Downing Street, taught Politics and History at the school during the 2006-2007 academic school year. Sir Alan Steer the former headteacher was the Labour Government's education tsar, completing a report of behavioural policies in educational establishments. This is often referred to as 'the Steer report' [3]
