Sethu Express is a train route of the Southern Railway zone of the Indian Railways and runs between Chennai Egmore and Rameswaram via Tiruchirappalli. It is a standard train consisting of 21 coaches. The train covers a distance of 602 km with an average speed of 51 km/h.
Etymology
The name of the train commemorates the 18th century "Sethupathy ",who was the King of Ramanathapuram Samasthanam(Princely State) in Tamil Nadu.

The main cities covered by the route are Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Vriddhachalam, Ariyalur, Tiruchirapalli, Pudukkottai, Karaikkudi, Sivagangai, Manamadurai, Ramanathapuram.From Tiruchirappalli to Chennai Egmore, this train is hauled by RPM/ED WAP4 Electric loco, and the section between Tiruchirappalli and Rameshwaram is hauled by GOC WDP3A/ ED WDM3D Diesel Loco. In between the Tiruchirappalli and Tambaram, this train achieves a maximum speed of 110 km/Hr.
