Setareki "Seta" Tamanivalu (born 23 July 1992 in Lautoka) is a Fijian-born rugby union player who plays for Taranaki. He was the 2014 ITM Player of the Year.[1]
Early life
Tamanivalu was born and raised in Fiji. He attended Lelean Memorial School where he excelled in both rugby union and rugby league. He was a member of the Fiji Secondary Schools under-18 rugby league squad that toured Australia in 2010.[2] He later migrated to New Zealand where he gained a scholarship at Saint Kentigern College to play rugby.
Domestic career
In 2012, Tamanivalu started his professional rugby career when he was named in the Taranaki squad for the 2012 ITM Cup.[3]
Throughout 2014, Tamanivalu was the joint-winner of Taranaki Player of the Year (alongside James Broadhurst) and his outstanding season saw him claim the prestigious New Zealand Rugby ITM Cup Player of the Year. Tamanivalu was set to make his Super Rugby debut in 2015 after an impressive ITM Cup campaign in which Taranaki claimed the ITM Cup Premiership in his third year with the province, earning him a full squad contract with the Chiefs in their 2015 campaign.
In October 2014, the Chiefs announced they had signed Tamanivalu on a 2-year contract.[4]
