Sergio Ismael Díaz Velázquez (born 5 March 1998) is a Paraguayan footballer who plays as a forward for Cerro Porteño and the Paraguay national under-20 football team.

Career

Youth and early career

Díaz is present for one year with Club Tacuary in the school of football, then passes to Cerro Porteño.[1] Díaz arrives at Cerro Porteño aged 10, at the club's school of football.[2] He marks approximately 30 goals in the Cerro Porteño U15 team and then passes to the reserve-team. He was coached by Diego Gavilán in the U15 team.[3] In 2013, he is referred to as the Sergio Aguero of Cerro Porteño as the young was practicing with the reserve-team and then joined one practice session with the first-team of Cerro Porteño.[4]

2014 season

The player debuts as a 15 year old in the Primera División Paraguaya, on 27 June 2014, in a 2-1 home victory against Club General Díaz, substituted onto the field in the 84th minute for Guillermo Beltrán.[5] Díaz then scores against Nacional Asunción in September, giving Cerro Porteño the victory.[6] The player scored a double in a 2-0 home victory against 3 de Febrero on 8 October 2014.[7] Against Boca Juniors in the Copa Sudamericana, the player wears the number# 22 jersey.[8]

During his performance at the 2015 South American Youth Football Championship in January 2015, it was reported that both Liverpool F.C. and Manchester United F.C. were chasing his signature.[9]

2015 season

In Diaz's debut for Cerro Porteño in the 2015 Primera División Paraguaya season, he scored one goal in his side's 3-0 away victory against Sportivo Luqueño on 14 February 2015.[10]

International career

In January 2015, Díaz is selected to represent Paraguay U20 at the 2015 South American Youth Football Championship.[11][12]
