Semaj Christon (born November 1, 1992) is an American professional basketball player who currently plays for the Oklahoma City Blue of the NBA Development League. He played college basketball for Xavier University.
High school career
Christon attended Winton Woods High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. After graduating from high school, he attended Brewster Academy for one year.
Led Brewster Academy to the 2012 National Prep Championship and was a 1st team All-NEPSAC selection. Teamed with TJ Warren (Phoenix Suns), JaKarr Sampson (Philadelphia 76ers), and Mitch McGary (Oklahoma City Thunder) at Brewster Academy
Considered a four-star recruit by Rivals.com, Christon was listed as the No. 3 point guard and the No. 31 player in the nation in 2012.[1]
College career
As a freshman at Xavier, Christon established himself as one of the top players in the Atlantic 10 Conference, averaging 15.2 points and 4.6 assists per game, earning Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year honors.[2] As a sophomore, Christon improved in several areas as he led the Musketeers into the Big East Conference. After averaging 17 points and 4.2 assists, he was unanimously named first team All-Big East in 2014.[3]
On March 28, 2014, Christon declared his eligibility for the NBA draft, bypassing his final two seasons at Xavier.[4]
Professional career
On June 26, 2014, Christon was selected with the 55th overall pick by the Miami Heat for the Charlotte Hornets, who acquired his draft rights as part of a trade made earlier that night in which Shabazz Napier went to Miami and P. J. Hairston joined Christon in Charlotte. Christon was again traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder for cash later that night. In July 2014, he joined the Thunder for the 2014 NBA Summer League.[5] On November 4, 2014, he was acquired by the Oklahoma City Blue.[6] On February 4, 2015, he was named to the Futures All-Star team for the 2015 NBA D-League All-Star Game.[7]
