Periscope is an arcade game released in Japan by Sega Enterprise in 1966.[1] The game was developed by the newly-merged Sega Enterprise's own CEO, David Rosen.

Play

The game, which was electro-mechanical in that era prior to true video games consisted of the player looking through a simulated submarine periscope to launch torpedoes at enemy ships.[1] Mechanically the game consisted of cardboard ships on a driven chain, and the torpedoes represented by colored lights.[2]

Reception

The game encountered great success in Japan, and was released in the United State the following year. The game found further success in the US and in Europe.[2] Rosen later described the game as being considered by experts in the community as "turning point in the industry."[1]
