Sediq Afghan

Sediq Afghan (Template:Lang-Dari) (born 1958 in Kabul) is an Afghan mathematician. He is currently head the "World philosophical Math Research Center" in Kabul, Afghanistan. He is also a political activist. He had a prominent role in protests in Kabul about Afghanistan- and Islam-related issues, including an anti-American protest in 2003,[1] a hunger strike to protest over beatings of journalists by Afghan security officers in 2006, and another one to protest the 2008 Danish Muhammad cartoons.[2]

Biography

Afghan completed his preliminary education in Afghanistan and received his doctorate in mathematics from the Moscow University[3] He is an outspoken person who criticises the Afghan government for the lack of attention to his works.[4] He has recently calculated the numbers of the verses of Quran and its relation with the creation of universe.

In 2012, Afghan was recognized as the "Man of the Year" by the International Biography Center.[5] The center also authorized Afgan to confer the medal upon other scholars. This has been criticized by many scholars and a BBC report revealed that the so-called "International Biography Center" lacks any academic authorization, and its titles and medals do not have any academic value. He is known for his outspoken criticism of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, of the secular governments that followed, and of the Taliban regime. In Kabul, he led first anti-U.S. protests during May 2003.[6]
