Sean Colig

Sean Colig (born May 21, 1976 in Toronto, Ontario) is a Canadian musician and record producer who serves as the guitarist for the punk rock band SNFU. He has previously played with Savannah, SideSixtySeven and Minority.

Career

Early years (1993–2006)

Colig co-founded and played guitar with the Vancouver, British Columbia-based rap metal band Minority from 1993 to 1997.^[1] In 1996, the band took first place in Vancouver's 99.3 C-Fox Seeds radio contest amid 200 entries. This earned them local and nation-wide popularity, and they went on to open for Pantera, White Zombie, Ice-T's Body Count, Sublime, Biohazard, Deftones, Korn, and numerous other group. During his stint with Minority, Colig also began working in record production.

In 1998 Colig next co-founded the skate punk band SideSixtySeven, for whom he served as bassist for eight years. Following his 2006 departure, the band remained active.

With Savannah and SNFU (2006–present)

Colig joined the Vancouver and Edmonton-based heavy metal band Savannah in 2006, four years after their formation, replacing guitarist Ricco Forester. The group soon released their debut album The Road To.. with producer Devin Townsend,^[2] and continued extensive touring across North America.

Savannah toured with the influential skate punk band SNFU in 2010. During the tour, Colig often joined the group as a guest second guitarist.^[1] Soon thereafter, Colig went on to join SNFU as its guitarist and harmony vocalist, completing their first five-piece lineup in 12 years. He and the group soon began their work on writing and recording sessions for their first studio release since 2004.

Colig contributed to SNFU's latest release "Never Trouble Trouble Until Trouble Troubles You" that was released September 2013 worldwide on Cruzar Media Records. Some reviews say this is Colig's best work to date, composing the music to "Morley", "Arm in a Sling" and "No Never" to name a few. His back ground vocals helped Ken Chinn "Mr. Chi Pig" throughout the entire record making the album sound full. Colig and Chinn's vocals worked very well together as Colig's harmonies hit perfect pitch. Colig noted in an interview that the album has no Pro-Tools "black magic" saying that the entire record has no punch-ins or edits. He also added that all the takes were done a few times each song choosing the best performance from each track so that he album had "the live feel". "When I flew out to Calgary to record my back-ups I had no idea what to expect." I had no idea what Chi's lyrics were either." "He recorded his tracks in Edmonton after we tracked all the beds and guitars in Vancouver." When I arrived in the studio Steve, (Steve Loree) (Producer) told me to write out the lyrics as we listened along to what Chi recorded." When I asked Steve why he said because I'm singing the entire songs word for word." "I laughed at first thinking he was joking but with Steve's dry sense of humor I could tell he wasn't." (Laughing) "I was nervous at first but after my first take I immediately felt comfortable." "I think it turned out very well and wasn't expecting that most of the songs would have me singing throughout the entire song." "It got mixed reviews, some like and some don't but mostly good."

In December 2013 Colig and management decided for Colig's well being and due to health matters, that Colig would take a leave of absence from the band for a year to focus on his health and family. He is expected to return to the band late 2014.
