Scott Simons Architects (SSA) is a ten-person design and planning firm located in Portland, Maine.

Background

SSA was first established in New York City in 1983 by Scott Simons and has since produced a body of work that includes institutional, academic, and residential projects.[1] The studio is credited as designer of the LEED Platinum certified Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens Bosarge Family Education Center in association with Maclay Architects.[2] It became the “greenest building" in Maine.[3][4] SSA is also the architect of record for the 2010 renovation and addition to the Portland Public Library and the 2014 renovation and addition to the "transformational" Casco Bay Lines Ferry Terminal.[5][6][7] The work of this firm has been recognized nationally for innovative design, attention to joinery, and inclusion of multiple stakeholders on public projects.[8][9][10] Currently, Scott Simons Architects is developing a Master Plan for the Portland Museum of Art, which includes a 1981 addition designed by Henry N. Cobb of I.M. Pei & Partners.[11][12][13][14]
