Scott David Shiflett (August 22, 1966) is a multi-instrumentalist American musician born in Santa Barbara, CA. He plays with the band Face to Face[1] and is also associated with the bands Viva Death,[2] Me First and the Gimme Gimmes and Jackson United (a band founded by his brother Chris who is best known as the lead guitarist for the Foo Fighters). He also played on 22 Jacks debut album Uncle Bob.[3]
Early Life
Raised on a steady diet of late 60’s & early 70’s hard rock (Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Alice Cooper) and inspired by his older brother Mike Shiflett’s advancing skills on the electric guitar, Scott started playing bass at the relatively young age of 12. With hopes of forming a band, the Shiflett brothers played relentlessly, inspiring many of their friends to take up instruments as well; younger brother Chris eventually taking up guitar. In the 80’s Scott played in a succession of local bands in Santa Barbara, eventually relocating to Los Angeles where he currently lives.
Career
Face to Face
Scott Shiflett joined face to face in 1995 replacing original bassist Matt Riddle. Scott quickly rose within the ranks becoming both co-songwriter and co-producer of the bands records along with band-mate Trever Keith. Known for his aggressive playing style and energetic live performances Scott is one of the most well regarded musicians in the punk rock community.
Viva Death
As a side project from face to face, Viva Death was originally formed alongside band-mate Trever Keith as a vehicle for their baritone guitar driven experimental rock featuring contributions from brother Chris Shiflett on guitar and Josh Freese on drums as well as longtime face to face producer/mixer Chad Blinman. Later recordings would feature Scott performing all the instruments himself.
Jackson United
Formed by brother Chris Shiflett, Jackson United features Scott on bass for both records and various tours.
Me First and the Gimme Gimmes
Since 2004 Scott has been a regular fill in lead guitarist for his brother Chris in the Gimmes for their live shows.
