Scott Hosfeld is an American conductor and violist.[1] His performances and music supervision have contributed to myriad blockbuster movie scores with film composers including Hans Zimmer, James Horner, Randy Newman, James Newton Howard and Marco Beltrami.[2]
Education
Hosfeld earned his BM and MM from New York City's Manhattan School of Music with the Highest Honors, as a Conducting Fellow of the esteemed conductor of the New York City Ballet and a viola and chamber music protege of concert artist, composer and pedagogue Lillian Fuchs.[3]
Early career
In 1980 as the Grand Prize Winner of Young Artists International, Hosfeld made his Carnegie Recital Hall Debut as violist and founder of the Riverside String Quartet, and won a coveted Aspen Music Festival Fellowship. He also founded the Val Coeur String Quartet, where he and the group toured Russia, Western Europe and Central and South America.[3]
Career
Educator
In 1989 Hosfeld became the director and violin/viola teacher at the Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, where he had originally founded the Shenandoah Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra prior in 1990, partially funded by a grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts.[4] As an educator, Hosfeld has developed programs including the Junior he Junior Strings ensemble in 2001, and the Outreach Violin Project in 2002, which continue to provide instruction to area low-income students.[5]
In addition to his time spent at Eastern Mennonite University, Hosfeld has been a faculty member and Artist-in-Residence the following Universities:

- Central Washington University
- James Madison University
- Louisiana State University
- Omaha Conservatory of Music at the University of Nebraska and Creighton University.

Conductor
In 1995, Maestro Hosfeld founded both the Icicle Creek Youth Symphony and the Icicle Creek Institute Chamber Orchestra, where he has served as principal conductor.[7] Hosfeld has also been principal conductor of the Kairos Festival Orchestra, the Dorian Festival Orchestra, the Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival Orchestras, the Icicle Symphony Orchestra, and the Central Washington University Chamber Orchestra;[8] and has led concerti for premiere international concert soloists including Nathaniel Rosen, Camilla Wicks, Andrew Shulman, Paul Coletti, Delores Stevens, Steven Doane, Darol Anger, David Perry, Peter Longworth, Hal Ott, Eric Kutz, Miko Kominami, Denise Dillenbeck, Spencer Martin, John Michel, Carrie Rehkopf and Mike Marshall.[3] Hosfeld is currently a conductor and music director of the Malibu Coast Chamber Orchestra (MCCO),[9] and the director and conductor of the Malibu Coast Silent Film Orchestra,[10] and currently holds the Alfred Newman Conducting Chair, and the Camilla Wicks Violin Chair at the Montgomery Arts House for Music and Architecture (MAHMA) in Malibu, California.[11]
Music Director and Supervisor
Mr. Hosfeld has also served as Music Director and Supervisor on such important historical film restorations as the vintage silent classics, "Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm" (1917) directed by Marshall Neilan and starring Mary Pickford; and "Quality Street" (1927) directed by Sydney Franklin and starring Marion Davies and Conrad Nagel.[3]
