Scinema
Scinema Festival of Science Film is an Australian film festival celebrating international science-related drama and documentary films. It is held annually in August.[1] The festival was founded with the aim of forging links between the sciences and the arts.[2] Scinema accepts entries from all over the world. It is supported by the Australian government's Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research as part of National Science Week.[3]
Background
Founded in 2000 by Rebecca Scott and Damian Harris, the first festival played only in Canberra (at the Center Cinema) and was well attended, with some sold-out performances. A notable event of the 2000 festival was Sexy Skivvy Science which featured a talk and experiments by Dean and Rob from the 1970s & 80s children’s television series The Curiosity Show.[2]
The festival has grown steadily since its inauguration and in 2008 it was screened in 150 Australia cities as well as internationally in India, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.[3]
